Fundraising

As part of the Yakima Valley Regional Library System, every community is responsible for providing a building to house its library and for keeping that building in good working order. Most communities, even small ones, have a government entity that funds such a facility. The unincorporated community of Buena does not, so the Friends of Buena Library* was formed to fill that void.

To date, FOBL has not had any formal fundraising plan to keep the library in operating capital. We have, this year, decided on a once-a-year fundraiser in the form of a Barn Dance. Our goal is to make 100% of the proceeds of this annual fundraiser support the operation of the library. We ask local businesses to support this effort in any way they can: donations of food, or wine for the dinner/dance; auction items for our silent auction; or cash donations.

In February 2007 we are also kicking off our capital campaign. We have received generous support in the form of grant money from the Yakima Valley Community Foundation, the State of Washington and the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic to provide a permanent home for the library. We are also asking you to help the Buena library continue to offer the important services that it provides to this community.

If you would like to know what you can do to help our dream of an expanded library and community center in Buena come true please contact one of our board members today!
